How to Effectively Use Clay Pots For Crafts

How to Effectively Use Clay Pots For Crafts

The small clay pots that we purchase at a nominal price during summer and winter have some super little uses around the holidays. There are some adorable ways we can use these clay pots for crafts that the kids will have fun making and you will have fun displaying over the holidays.

Clay Pot Crafts

There are lots of ways to craft with clay pots. Here are some examples of what you could do with clay pots:

Create a mini birdhouse. Fill a clay pot with sand and plant seeds inside. Water daily and watch the seedlings grow. When the birds start nesting, collect eggs and hatch chicks. Keep feeding the nest every week until the babies fly away.

Build a miniature tree house. Cut holes in the sides of a clay pot and insert wooden dowels. Cover the openings with fabric scraps. Glue together several pieces of wood to form a roof. Add windows and doors. Paint the walls green and hang toys inside.

Make a dollhouse. Using a plastic container instead of a clay pot, build a tiny replica of your own home.

Clay Pot Angel

This is one of my favorite projects using clay pots as it’s so easy, inexpensive and cute! You just need:

-A few clay pots

-Glue gun or glue sticks

-Mod Podge

-Paintbrush

-Scissors

Start by gluing your pot onto an angel wing template I made from cardboard. Once dry paint with Mod Podge then cut out wings on top of the pot. Let dry completely before adding glitter. How To Make Clay Pot Angels | DIY Crafts & Decorating Ideas

Clay Pot Snowman

Making a snowman out of a clay pot is not only very creative but it’s also really simple too. All you need are two bowls and a piece of paper towel rolled into a tube shape. Start by filling up the smaller bowl half full with water and add baking soda until it reaches about halfway up the side of the larger bowl. Then place the large bowl upside down on top of the other bowl and let sit overnight. The next day take off the lid and carefully remove the “snow” from the bottom bowl. It should be white and fluffy looking. If there isn’t any left after removing all the snow, simply repeat this process again. Now fill the remaining space in the second bowl with more water and bake soda mixture. Place the filled bowl back on top of the empty bowl and leave them both alone for 24 hours. After 24 hours check if the snow has hardened. If it hasn’t yet dried, put it outside where it can get warm air circulating through it.

These little snow men are made of a wooden bead, a clay pot and some odds and ends of fabric, as well as the elastic top of a children’s sock.

They are attractive and easy to make and would make an admirable fun craft for children to do on weekend when boredom sets in.

You will need.

  • 3 inch clay pot
  • 2 inch wooden bead
  • Miscellaneous buttons
  • White acrylic paint
  • Black acrylic paint
  • 2 socks
  • Scissors
  • Glue or hot glue
  • Small amount of fiberfill

Paint the bead and pot white with your acrylic paints, you can use bright colors.

Glue the bead to the bottom of the pot.

Take the scissors and cut about a two inch length from the elastic cuff of the childs sock

Trim the edges of it, so that it is ragged about 1/2 inch down and add a rubber band to form a tassel

Fill with a bit of fiberfill.

Glue to the top of the wooden bead.

Dot black acrylic paint to the front of the bead to form the coal features of the snowman.

Cut a one inch length from the sock below the elastic.

Cut the tube to form a single strand of the knit material.

Fold in half and glue around the snow mans neck

Glue two buttons to the front of the snow mans body (pot)

Touch glue to the ends of the scarf and glue them to the pot in front and back.

Here’s another great idea for those who love crafting with clay pots. These are perfect for hanging on your porch or doorways throughout the year. Simply wrap twine around the base of the pot and tie knots to secure it. Hang the ornament anywhere indoors or outdoors.

Terra Cotta Pots

Terra cotta pots are just one of the types of pots you can use when crafting. There are many different kinds of pots available today which makes it easier than ever to create something unique. Terra Cotta pots come in various shapes and sizes and they’re perfect for creating anything from home decor items to garden decorations.

These flowerpots are great for indoor gardening because they keep moisture away from plants while allowing enough light to reach their roots. These planters are ideal for hanging baskets, window boxes, terrariums, herb gardens, etc. Each pot measures approximately 12 inches tall x 8 inches wide. This set includes 2 pots.
